Practice
Research and Advisory
Decision-grade analysis for high-stakes questions in sovereign debt and international finance.
We combine deep domain expertise with reusable analytical infrastructure. That reduces the time lost to rebuilding models, reconciling data, and repeating mechanical work, creating more room for testing the analysis, exercising judgment, and communicating what matters.
What we work on
Sovereign debt and debt sustainability
Debt dynamics, creditor structures, financing options, restructurings, institutional frameworks, and the models used to assess them.
Complex financial data
Building decision-ready datasets from fragmented public and private sources, with transparent methods and validation.
Analytical systems and workflows
Turning recurring spreadsheet and research processes into reusable, testable infrastructure.
Research for institutional decisions
Clear, defensible analysis for senior readers who need to understand both the answer and what drives it.
Adjacent work in Chinese overseas finance, development finance, climate and energy finance, and legal-contract research appears in examples under these headings.
How we work
We begin with the decision that needs to be made. We inspect the data, assumptions, and machinery underneath it. Where work will recur, we build reusable components rather than repeating it by hand. The final output is designed to be scrutinized, reproduced where appropriate, and used after the engagement ends.
Why the model is different
Traditional analysis often spends expensive expert hours reconstructing the basic machinery. Our SovTech infrastructureallows more of those hours to go to the question itself. The objective is not automation for its own sake. It is faster, more transparent work without trading away judgment.
Evidence
Clearing the Clogs: A plumber's guide to making the reformed LIC-DSF run at scale
The IMF and World Bank propose greater analytical ambition for the LIC-DSF. We assess whether the roughly 70 country teams that operate the framework can make it run, and identify four boring, doable, and cheap fixes.
Greener on the Other Side: Mapping China's Overseas Co-Financing and Financial Innovation
Maps the shift in Chinese overseas lending toward commercial co-financing and what it means for energy transition finance. Roughly 18,000 lending records classified with a carefully validated LLM workflow, combined with network analysis; the methodological appendix and code are published.
Solar Can't Scale in the Dark
A forensic analysis of subsidies and contract transparency in the IFC's Scaling Solar program, and the institutional lessons for programs that depend on public money.
Who we work with
We work with sovereign issuers, asset managers, multilateral institutions, philanthropies, research organizations, and their technical partners.
We undertake a limited number of institutional engagements where our domain expertise and analytical infrastructure materially improve the work.
